Jakob Beschel's overtime goal lifted the UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Stanislaus State. The win improves the Falcons to 2-2 on the season as they return home from a three-game California trip.
Once both defenses settled in, the Warriors (3-1) recorded the first shot of the affair.
Joel Hope got the first shot off for the Falcons before
Sergio Gonzalez missed just high. The Warriors got off five more shots but kept missing high, and the game headed into the half scoreless.
The Falcons had opportunities in the second half, but
Andrew Perez and
Andre Luis Lima couldn't convert early. The defense dug in and the Falcon defense refused to break, with
Alfonso Aragon making a pair of saves sending the game into overtime.
Both teams had chances in the overtime period with Lima and
John Karlsen being stopped on back to back opportunities. The defense turned into offense and after a steal went on the breakaway. Lima had a quick pass from the left side of the box to the right and Beschel used his left foot to one-time it home for the 1-0 win.
The Falcons once again had double digit shots with 12. Aragon had three saves posting the shutout, the first of the year for the Falcons.
The Falcons return home Saturday to take on Texas A&M Intenational at 1 p.m. before beginning Lone Star Conference play.
