Five Falcons had multi-hit games in a 10-run outburst, but it wasn't enough as UT Permian Basin fell to No. 23 Angelo State 14-10.
Â
The Rams (23-5, 4-0) jumped on Falcon (9-16, 0-4) pitching early, scoring in the first three innings to go up 5-0. The Falcon offense would get on the board in the fourth. Sklyer Palermo picked up the team's first hit with a lead-off single before stealing second.Â
Gabriel Melendez followed with a two-run home run to left field, his second of the series, to make it 5-2. Later in the inning
William Bierlein would double and score on a single by
Andres Romero to cut the deficit to two. In their half of the inning the Rams would answer with three runs of their own putting the lead back at five.
Â
Despite trailing by five again, the Falcons wouldn't quit, answering with another three runs in the fifth.Â
Pemron Burrows singled with one-out and move to third on an error. Palermo brought him home with a single of his own. Melendez followed the hit with a walk and putting two runners on.Â
Peyton Koopman doubled to left center scoring a run and putting runners in scoring position.Â
Tyler Vlasek brought in Melendez on a groundout making it 8-6. That's as close as they'd get as the Rams continued to score and went into the ninth leading 14-6.
Â
The Falcons would make things interesting in the final frame. Melendez singled with one out in the ninth. Koopman drove him in with another double and scored on a double by Vlasek. Bierlein followed with a homer to center field for two more runs and make it a 14-10 score. The Falcons couldn't complete the rally for the 14-10 final.
Â
Palermo, Melendez, Koopman, Bierlein and Romero each had two hits on the afternoon. Koopman and Bierlein's hits were both for extra bases. Melendez, Koopman, Vlasek and Bierlein each had a pair of RBI as well. Burrows now has 15 stolen bases on the season and is among the top five in the Lone Star Conference.
Â
The Falcons return home next weekend where they'll take on Eastern New Mexico in a four-game series starting Friday.
