UT Permian Basin 1st Baseman
Kayla Martin hot off to a torrid start Friday and continued her hot hitting Saturday, but Western New Mexico used a pair of home runs to get off to a quick start as it handed the Falcons a 7-3 loss in Lone Star Conference action in Silver City, N.M.
Ariana Maldonado and Marina Garcia each went yard in the first three innings, Maldonado a two-run shot in the first and Garcia a one-run blast in the third, and the Mustangs added two more on a double for a 5-0 lead through three.Â
Alicia Marion broke through in the fifth for UTPB, hitting a double to center field that scored
Jessica Gonzales.
After the Mustangs added a pair in the bottom half of the inning, UTPB responded with two more in the sixth. Gonzales drove home Martin on a ground out to second, and
Alyssa Lopez hit a single to plate
Vanessa Alonzo.
Martin ended the game 2-4 with a run scored. She ended the series 6-9 with four runs scored.
Marion added a pair of hits with an RBI out of the leadoff spot.
The Falcons are back in action Tuesday, taking to the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Sul Ross.
