UT Permian Basin softball scored six runs in the final two innings, including four runs in the top of the seventh to come-from-behind and take a 6-5 win over Sul Ross Tuesday afternoon in road action in Alpine, Texas. The Falcons got a great start in the circle from
Abrie Castillo in the opener but fell 4-1 in game one to the Lobos.
The Falcons had to rally after giving up a pair of runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to fall behind 4-0.
UTPB cut into the lead in the top of the sixth inning when
Vanessa Alonzo and
Cindy Juarez each hit doubles to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
Ruby Sanchez pulled UTPB back within a run in the seventh with a home run to left center. Alonzo came through with the go-ahead hit, a single to center that drove home
Alicia Marion and
Valerie Gonzalez for the 5-4 lead.
Kayla Martin added an insurance run, one that proved to be much needed, on a ground out to short to go ahead 6-4.
Sul Ross threatened in the seventh when the first two batters reached base. The Lobos pushed across a run on the first out of the inning and had the tying run at third, but a caught stealing ended the rally for the second out and UTPB ended the game with a ground out to third for the win.
Alonzo drove in three runs in the win, while
April Arellano scored twice.
Cindy Juarez got the win, giving up three earned runs off of 13 hits allowed while walking none.
Sloan Springfield got her first save of the season, entering after the first two batters of the seventh to get three straight outs.
Castillo took the hard-luck loss in game one, allowing just three hits and a walk in six innings, but Sul Ross scored four runs, three of them unearned behind three UTPB errors. She struck out six in the game.
The Falcons got their lone run to tie the game, scoring on an Alonzo single ino right to drive home

Sul Ross scored three in the bottom of the sixth, two of them unearned to go ahead 4-1.
UTPB is back home this coming weekend, hosting Angelo State back in Lone Star Conference action Friday and Saturday in a three game-series.
