Falcons Back on the Road to Face Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M

2/7/2019 11:28:00 AM

UT Permian Basin women's basketball continues the second half of Lone Star Conference play on the road this weekend.  They open today at Eastern New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. and follow that up at 2 p.m. on Saturday against West Texas A&M.

The Falcons are still in search of their first conference win, despite having six of the 12 games be decided by 10 points or less and another decided by 11.  Last time out the Falcons went down to the wire with Texas Woman's.  Trailing by nine in the fourth quarter, an 11-0 run including eight points from Chynna Rivera put the Falcons back into the game.  Texas Woman's would take a slim lead into the final seconds before the Falcons would force a turnover to get one last chance.  That shot would fall just short for a 62-59 final.

Khali Pippins-Tryon has carried the Falcon offense this season scoring a team-high 12.6 points per game.  She has scored in double figures in six consecutive games and eight of the last nine. Over that time span she has been averaging 14.9 ppg.  Also scoring for the Falcons are Lemia Ntor-Ue at 9.4 ppg and Sarah Bersang with 8.9 ppg.  Bersang has also added in 3.8 rebounds per game and a team-high 57 assists.

Eastern New Mexico heads into tonight No. 6 in the South Central Region after splitting their two games last week.  These two teams squared off in Odessa just over a month early with the Greyhounds winning 61-55.  The game was close throughout with neither team leading by more than nine points and was a one-point game with just over a minute to play.  The Greyhounds are led by Treyanna Clay with 15.2 ppg, sixth in the conference.  Zamorye Cox, Dasia Johnson and Alivia Lewis all also average over eight points a night.  The Falcons kept Clay at bay in the first meeting holding her to just 12 points.

The Falcons then head to Canyon to face West Texas A&M on Saturday.  The Lady Buffs were undefeated and ranked No. 3 the last time these teams played, but since then they've lost three games and dropped down to No. 22 in the WBCA poll.  The Falcons could not stop Lexy Hightower or Delaney Nix in the first match-up as each went for 20 points.  The Falcons did a terrific job containing Tyesha Taylor who's second in the conference with 15.8 ppg and held her to just seven.  Hightower comes into the game fifth in the conference at 15.3 ppg.

Next week the Falcons return home where they will take on Cameron on Thursday and MSU Texas on Saturday.  You can follow all the action on utpbfalcons.com or following our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages.
