Box Score UT Permian Basin forced 22 Eastern New Mexico turnovers but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell 76-57 in Portales.
The Falcons (3-18) came out of the gate hot knocking down shots on their first three possessions to take an early 6-0 lead. A three by Nyachristmas Puok pushed the early Falcon lead to 9-2. The Greyhounds (15-6) would chip away eventually taking the lead heading into the second quarter. The Falcon offense couldn't get going falling behind by 10.Â
Juliette Akinwole hit a pair of free throws and
Khali Pippins-Tryon followed with a basket to make it a six point game. The teams would trade baskets for the rest of the quarter until the Greyhounds hit back to back threes in the final minute sending the game to the half with the Falcons trailing 31-19. Â
The Falcons wouldn't go away in the third quarter keep the deficit within 14 points as the teams exchanged points throughout the quarter. A lay-up from
Chynna Rivera made it a 10 point game with 8:55 to go. The Falcons would hang around until a 7-0 Greyhound run put the game out of reach for the 76-57 final.
Rivera led the Falcons in scoring with 12 points including 10 in the second half. She also pitched in five rebounds, five assists and four steals.Â
Sarah Bersang was the only other Falcon in double figures with 10 points.
The Falcons head to Canyon to take on West Texas A&M on Saturday before coming home to face Cameron and MSU Texas.
