UT Permian Basin returns home this week to honor their seniors before heading to Frisco next week for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Senior Day will be held Saturday and will also be the First Basin Credit Union Orange Out game.
The Falcons are currently occupy the seventh seed in the conference and look to improve on that heading into the postseason. To do so they'll have to take down Texas A&M – Commerce and Tarleton State, two of the top teams in the conference.
The lone senior on the roster is
Xavier Ledet, a transfer from Dallas Baptist. In his time as a Falcon Ledet has started all but one game and been a force all over the floor. He has averaged over 10 ppg for much of the season, currently at 10.4 ppg, and grabbed rebounds at an outstanding clip of 7.6 per game to lead the team. Ledet scored a season-high 20 points against Eastern New Mexico and was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The senior leads the team with four double-doubles.
Jacob Ledoux continues to lead the Falcon offense in his pursuit of 500 points on the season, averaging 18.0 ppg. He also continues to be the leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference. The Falcons still lead the conference in team scoring with 85.5 ppg and field goal percentage at 0.496 percent. Ledet is fourth in the conference in rebounding as well
Texas A&M – Commerce comes into action second in the conference and fourth in the South Central Regional. The Lions split last week defeating Eastern New Mexico before losing to West Texas A&M on their senior night. They boast the fourth and fifth leading scorers in the conference with Reggie Reid at 15.9 ppg and Willie Rooks at 14.7 ppg. Trey Conrod is also in double figures with 12.2 ppg. Rooks also leads the team with 5.8 rpg. The Falcons dropped a tough game to the Lions on the road earlier in the season as the Lions pulled away late for the 85-78 final.
Tarleton State sits at 18-9 but only 8-8 in conference play this season, and losers of three straight. Josh Hawley, not only the team's leading scorer, has battled
Jacob Ledoux all season for the top scorer in the conference. Hawley averages 17.2 ppg while also leading the conference with 10.1 rpg. Corinthian Ramsey (12.1 ppg), Jesse Hill (10.3 ppg) and Randall Broddie (10.0 ppg) are also all in double figures. Earlier this season, the Falcons trailed the Texans by as many as 19 points in the second half. A furious comeback made it as close as a two-point game in the final seconds before a pair of free throws iced the game for the 79-75 final.
On Saturday, UT Permian Basin will be honoring the three seniors from women's basketball and the one from men's basketball between the two games. Saturday is also the First Basin Credit Union Orange Out game and fans are asked to wear orange to the game. There is also a tailgate with food provided by the Permian Cajuns.
