This week marks the final road trip of the season for UT Permian Basin women's basketball as their schedule winds down over the next two weeks. The Falcons face stiff road tests up against Texas A&M – Kingsville on Thursday before playing Angelo State on Saturday.
The Falcons won their first Lone Star Conference game of the season last week, defeating Cameron 66-65 in a tightly contested battle. Hot shooting early sparked the Falcons to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter. The Aggies would slowly climb back in it but the Falcons would hold on with
Khali Pippins-Tryon coming up with the steal in the final seconds preventing a final attempt from the Aggies. The Falcons would follow that up with another tight contest but fall 63-52 to MSU Texas. Pippins-Tryon had a huge week averaging 27.5 points per game including a conference-high 31 points on Saturday.
Texas A&M – Kingsville comes into this week after dropping seven straight games, putting them in a tie for the final spot in the Lone Star Conference Championships. Last week the Javelinas fell on the road to Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M, who they both beaten earlier in the season. These two squads met up just over one month ago and played to a 78-71 final in the Javelinas' favor. The Falcons went into the fourth quarter with the lead, but after the teams traded points the Javelinas pulled away in the final minute on free throws. They are led offensively by Brynae Thompson with 15.4 points per game and Cloe Lane adds in 11.8 ppg.
Angelo State heads into the week ranked No. 23 in the country after dropping a pair of game last week. The Rambelles had gone into the week sitting alone atop the Lone Star Conference but now are in a three-way tie with Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M at 13-3. The Falcons hung with the Rambelles when these two faced each other earlier in the season in Odessa before falling 74-63. Pippins-Tryon had a game-high 21 while
Sarah Bersang pitched in 15 points of her own. The Rambelles are led by Marquita Daniels averaging a conference-high 16.2 points per game. De'Anira Moore and Dezirae Hampton each are over 12 ppg and seven rebounds per game on the season.
