Falcons Looking to Avenge OT Loss at Cameron

2/14/2019 2:41:00 PM

After playing five of their last six on the road, UT Permian Basin women's basketball returns home this week to take on Cameron and MSU Texas.  Thursday's game with Cameron will be the Medical Center Health Hoops for Hearts White Out with t-shirts for the first 400 fans in attendance.

The last time the Falcons were in Odessa they would take Texas Woman's down to the final shot, with the Falcons falling just short in the final seconds 62-59.  The Falcons would drop their next two games on the road to regionally ranked opponents, Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.  Nyachristmas Puok was the teams leading scoring with 23 points over the two games.  Senior Chynna Rivera also added in 10 points per game last week in a starting role.

Earlier in the season the Falcons met Cameron in Lawton, Okla. where the Falcons led for most of the game.  A late third quarter run by the Aggies got them back into the game before heading into overtime. There the Aggies would take over for the 77-67 final.  The Aggies come in after dropping four straight, including falling at the buzzer their last time out.  They are led offensively by Maighan Hedge averaging 15.2 ppg.  She is followed by Natalie Halbleib with 12.6 ppg and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game.  In the previous match-up Halbleib scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds in the overtime period.

The Falcons would get off to a slow start the first time out at MSU Texas.  The Mustangs would take it 79-57, with Sarah Bersang scoring 16 and Khali Pippins-Tryon finishing with 15 points for the Falcons.  Five Mustangs would score in double figures on the night.  The Mustangs come in after being swept last week, after back to back wins over West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.  Currently the seventh seed in the Lone Star Conference, the Mustangs have just two players averaging more than 10 points in Hannah Reynolds (11.0 ppg) and Chelcie Kizart (10.7 ppg).

Tip-off Thursday night is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. with Saturday slated to begin at 2 p.m.  For links to follow along with live stats or live stream head to utpbfalcons.com.
