Hoad Adds to Impressive List of Accolades as LSC Announces 2019 Awards

UT Permian Basin senior linebacker Chris Hoad repeated as Lone Star Conference Linebacker of the Year and First Team All-LSC, and....as the Lone Star Conference announced its 2019 All-Conference Football Teams Friday afternoon.

Hoad led the Lone Star Conference and Division II with 157 tackles in 2019. He ended his illustrious career with 528 total tackles and is the current active tackle leader across all NCAA Divisions.

Hoad set a new single game record in 2019, racking up 24 total tackles on the road at Angelo State. His total was the third-highest in a Division II game this past season.

He scored a touchdown to end the first half in the season finale against Texas A&M-Kingsville on a play that has taken the world by storm and has been seen on numerous national media outlets over the last week.

Hoad, a criminology major, was also named a member of the conference's Academic Team for 2019. 

"This recognition is a direct reflection of the effort Chris has put in the past five years," said Head Coach Justin Carrigan. "He is a tireless worker, with a relentless pursuit to be the best."

UTPB punter Sergio Landeros was also a First Team All-LSC selection. Landeros led the conference averaging 42.1 yards per punt in 2019 as a sophomore. He had the longest punt in the conference this season, a 78-yard bomb, and tied for the league lead with 12 punts of at least 50 yards. 

The Falcons had six players recognized as All-LSC Honorable Mention. Seniors Pablo Gutierrez and Hunter Bowers have been mainstays on the Falcon offensive line throughout their careers at UTPB. Wide Receiver Kyle McBride led the Falcons in all receiving categories, catching 49 passes for 672 yards and five touchdowns in his senior season. Senior defensive lineman Diego Assad had the best year of his career with 27 tackles, 8.5 TFL for 35 yards, and 3.5 sacks for 22 yards with four quarterback hurries ona one forced fumble. Keegan Gray made his mark on the Falcon football program over the last four years. A senior linebacker, he ranked second on the team with 65 tackles in nine games with a fumble recovery. Donta Stuart had a breakout season for UTPB in the secondary. The freshman defensive back ranked third on the team with 63 tackles in his first season with the Falcons, leading the team with three interceptions to go with a forced fumble this season.
