Matthews and Friel Too Much for Patriots in 3-0 Blowout Victory

Box Score A pair of UT Permian Basin's senior attackers were too much for Dallas Baptist Saturday afternoon, helping the Falcons to a 25-20, 25-13, 25-16 sweep of the Patriots in Odessa.

Travana Matthews led the Falcons with 10 kills on the afternoon, hitting a team-best .600 with just one error on 15 attempts on the day. Skyler Friel added nine kills, hitting .421 with also  just one error on the afternoon.

Prior to the match, the Falcons celebrated sophomore setter Analise Lucio on reaching 1,000 career assists during action last weekend.

"I'm proud of our team for playing with a lot of energy and focus today," said head coach Tim Loesch. "It was great to recognize Analise Lucio before the game today  for dishing out 1,000 assists in less than two years here at UT Permian Basin.  She is a very skillful, joyful and intense player that brings out the best in her teammates.  We look forward to her going for 1000 more!  Ana had a great match again today with 31 assists, five kills and an ace. She got some good passes from Erika Lozano, Isela Murillo and Marissa Aguilar who had 20, 15, and 10 digs respectively.

"Travana and Skyler were also monsters on the attack in the match with a combined 19 kills and just 2 errors, hitting over .500 combined."

Lucio had a match-best 31 assists on the day, while Erika Lozano had a contest-best 20 digs at libero. 

The Falcons are back on the road next weekend, taking on Cameron in Lawton, Okla.
