Volleyball Looks to End Regular Season Hot against Greyhounds, Lady Buffs

11/14/2019 8:57:00 AM

UT Permian Basin looks to improve their conference standings this weekend and get hot for playoffs as it closes out the regular season against Eastern New Mexico Thursday night and West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon.

"I'm excited for the weekend and want to see us playing well heading into the tournament," said head coach Tim Loesch. "I'm looking for us to be playing our best at the end of the season, but also to continue to improve."

The Falcons will honor seniors Kiera Granado, Travana Matthews and Skyler Friel in a pregame ceremony before Saturday's 12 p.m. match against the Lady Buffs.

"We are thrilled to celebrate the careers of three seniors that have given so much to our program over the last four years," said Loesch.

Beginning this year, selection for the conference tournament will be determined by a team's record against the other teams in its pod. The league has been broken into three pods of six teams each, and the top four teams in each pod will advance to the conference tournament.  Four teams will receive a bye in the first round of play; each of the three pod winners, and the highest remaining team that did not win its pod.

Seeding in the tournament will be set by NCAA RPI, which is based upon a team's wins and losses as well as strength of schedule against Division II teams this season.

Seeds 5-12 will play in a first-round tournament game Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. at local campus sites. Seeds 5, 6, 7, and 8 will all host matches in the first round. The four winners of those matches will advance to the second round of the championships at the #1 seed beginning on Thursday, Nov. 21.

"Playing at home would be great for our team and being able to host a playoff match would be thrilling for our players," said Loesch. "We play well at home and our fans do a great job of getting into the match."
