UT Permian Basin Men's Soccer now sits just one point behind the final spot in the Lone Star Conference Championships after a 3-0 victory over UT Tyler. Over the last five games the Falcons are now 3-1-1.
Both teams had chances early and pushed the pace, but it was the Falcons (5-8-1, 2-4) who capitalized on a mistake first.
John Karlsen drilled home a free kick from just outside the 18 right after the Patriot (6-5-2) was called for handling the ball outside the box.
Roughly five minutes later the Falcons struck again on a perfectly played throw in.
Michael Nweke's long throw found the head of
Stefan Faria who flicked it back out to
Sergio Gonzalez. Gonzalez hammered it home to go up 2-0 in the 35
th minute.
The Falcons added a third goal in the second half when
Kasper Wallstroem flicked in a well-placed pass from
Sergio Gonzalez.
Alfonso Aragon made six saves for his third shutout of the season. For Karlsen and Wallstroem it was their second goals of the season, while it was the first for Gonzalez.
The Falcons hit the road for the final time in 2019 as they'll take on St. Mary's and Texas A&M International before returning home for the final weekend of the regular season.
