Box Score

Senior running back Davion Sutton scored the first touchdown of his Falcon career Saturday afternoon and senior linebacker Chris Hoad broke a single-game record, but Angelo State used a number of big pass plays to pick up a 65-7 victory at Legrand Field in San Angelo, Texas.

Hoad had a career-high 24 tackles for the Falcons, breaking his record of 19 in a game set two seasons ago against Eastern New Mexico in 2017. He currently leads division II with 115 total tackles and is the NCAA Active Leader across all divisions with 484 total career tackles in his four seasons.

The Rams struck first, moving down the field on a 61-yard pass to Lawton Ayo to the Falcon 19. A pair of runs went nowhere, and a pass to the end zone on third down was deflected by Max Wariboko to force the Rams to kick a 26-yard field goal nearly halfway into the first quarter.

UTPB stopped the Rams again in Falcon territory, but a roughing the kicker on a missed field goal gave Angelo State life, and Ayo caught a 15-yard touchdown in the middle of the end zone on the next play.

The Falcons came back with its first score of the afternoon late in the first quarter. Mathis had a pair of long passes on third downs, the first 20 yards to Kobe Robinson and the second to Jeremiah Cooley for 28 yards to the Rams 11. A pair of runs from Davion Sutton picked up a first down to the Rams 1, and he punched it in for the one-yard touchdown.

Angelo State took advantage of a Falcon turnover, needing three plays to go 55 yards to score on a 39-yard reception by Keke Chism for a 17-7 lead.

The Rams added their second straight score on a 30-yard interception returned for a touchdown by Simon Maxey midway through the second quarter.

ASU got its third touchdown of the first half on a 29 yard pass from Payne Sullins to Austin Landry with 1:24 remaining in the second half for a 31-7 lead. The Rams added a pair of rushing scores in the third quarter and scored three times in the fourth, once on a fumble returned for a touchdown and two passing scores.

Sutton led the Falcons with 105 yards on 21 carries, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, and a touchdown.

Ben Galaviz had a team-best three catches for 32 yards, also a team-high.

Xavier Brooks had 10 tackles and a pair of tackles-for-loss, while Max Wariboko had seven tackles and three pass breakups in the end zone.
