Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Vargas Ramos OT Winner Lifts Falcons to Comeback Over LCU

In a back and forth battle Salvador Vargas Ramos' overtime winner was the decider in the Falcons 2-1 comeback win over Lubbock Christian.

In what was a fast paced game the Chaps (7-4-1) looked to strike right way with a chance early but couldn't connect.  The Falcons (4-8) began to attack the net, getting off four shots on goal in the first 30 minutes but unable to cash in on their chances.  In the 30th minute, the Chaps connected on a through ball which led to a goal and a 1-0 lead which was the score heading into the half.  The Falcons were determined to strike quickly in the second half down a goal.

Just 10 minutes into the half, Jakob Beschel found a pass from Kasper Wallstroem and Gregory Echols and blasted it passed the keeper from the left side of the net to tie the game at one.  Both defenses locked in once the score was tied, as neither team regitered a shot for the next 20 minutes of game action.  Beschel thought he had the game-winner in the 80th minute and Andre Luis Lima thought he had it in the 86th minute but both chances were kept out of the net as we went into overtime.

The Chaps sent the first chance of the extra time high.  A foul gave the Falcons a free kick in the offensive zone but after a scrum in front of the net the ball was cleared.  The Falcons regained possession and Echols crossed it into the box towards a running Vargas Ramos who flicked it passed the keeper giving the Falcons the thrilling 2-1 victory.

In net Alfonso Aragon made three stops in the victory.  The Falcons attacked the net with eight shots on goal and had other opportunities in the offensive zone.  Echols was credited with two assists.

The Falcons are home again this Saturday evening at 7 where they'll take on Dallas Baptist University, who the Falcons defeated on the road 4-0 just a week ago.
