Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Quarter Sinks Falcons in 69-33 Loss to #3 West Texas A&M

UT Permian Basin women's basketball fell to #3 West Texas A&M 69-33, despite holding the Lady Buffs under their scoring average for the season.

The Lady Buffs (11-0, 3-0) would jump out to an early 11-2 lead before the Falcons (3-8, 0-3) would climb back in it.  Back to back baskets by Nyachristmas Puok and Juliette Akinwole cut the deficit to five.  Later in the quarter, Teya Morris would bury a three from the wing to make it 15-11, but that was as close as the Falcons would get.  The Lady Buffs would start the quarter on a 9-2 run before a pair of Puok free throws made it 27-15.  The Lady Buffs would close the quarter on a 13-0 run to open the game on the strength of Lexy Hightower's 18 points on 6-7 shooting from deep.

The Falcon defense would tighten up in the third quarter forcing nine turnovers and only allowing 10 points.  The Falcons would spread the offense with four players scoring their 12 points in the quarter.  The Lady Buffs would pull away in the fourth quarter for the 69-33 final.

Puok led the Falcon offense with seven points off the bench.  Lemia Ntor-Ue and Khali Pippins-Tryon added in six points a piece.  The Falcon defense held the Lady Buffs to 10 points below their season average while also holding Tyesha Taylor, the leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference, to just seven points.

The Falcons look to pick-up their first conference win of the season Saturday when they take on Eastern New Mexico before heading on the road.
