The UT Permian Basin women's soccer team took Lubbock Christian to double overtime before falling 1-0 on the road.
UTPB played shorthanded for most of the match when Kalee Overmeyer picked up a red card at the 19:31 mark into the game. To that point UTPB had gotten two shots on goal already. UTPB would get off two more on goal by the end of the half while Lubbock Christian fired away 11 times with just two on goal.
The game remained scoreless and UTPB put forth a huge defensive effort with just 10 players. In the second half Lubbock Christian got off 26 shots, with seven of them on goal. UTPB couldn't get a shot off on their own but held firm to force overtime.
In the first overtime
Caitlin Gomez was finally able to get the ball on goal for UTPB with just seconds to spare. In the second extra period, Lubbock Christian finally broke through when Gabby Gomez's header off a corner kick found the back of the net.
Raeann Brown registered eight saves in goal for UTPB.
UTPB women's soccer plays again Saturday against New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. as they close in on the start of the Lone Star Conference season.
