Men's Soccer Heads to Colorado This Weekend

The UT Permian Basin men's soccer team heads to Colorado this week after starting the season 0-2 at home.  They will play Adams State on Thursday and Colorado State - Pueblo on Saturday.

UTPB opened at home with a 2 OT loss to Dixie State by a score of 2-1.  Freshman Jacob Tellez scored off an assist from senior Jorge Murillo.  The team would go on to lose in 2 OT on a goal from Ricky Nunez.  Senior goalkeeper Lucas Gomes had six saves on the afternoon for the Falcons.

After Saturday night's game against Fort Lewis would be pushed back due to weather, the team would strike first once again.  Sophomore Michael Nweke headed in a corner kick from junior Santi Morales for a 1-0 lead at half time.  Fort Lewis would tie the game late then added a winner in overtime for the 2-1 win.  Gomes faced nine shots on goal and stopped seven of them.

On Thursday, UTPB heads to Alamosa, Colorado to take on Adams State.  Adams State is 0-2 after opening the season on the road in Oklahoma.  They opened the season with a 3-2 loss to Oklahoma Baptist in 2 OT.  Adams State held a 2-0 half time lead before Oklahoma Baptist fired 20 shots in the second half, scoring twice to tie the game and eventually winning in extra time. 

They would fall on Saturday to Southern Nazarene 4-1.  Nazarene connected twice in the first half and added two more in the second half in the game.  Last season Adams State went 7-10-1 overall and 4-9-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  UTPB and Adams State played last season in Odessa with Adams State coming out on top 2-1 in OT.

On Saturday UTPB heads to Pueblo, Colorado to face Colorado State – Pueblo.  CSU –Pueblo won its season opener against Newman 1-0 on a goal from Santiago Tinta.  They fell on the road to West Texas A&M 3-1 Monday night.  CSU – Pueblo opened the scoring at the 25:40 mark but allowed a goal just before the half and then two more in the second half for the 3-1 final.  CSU - Pueblo also plays Dallas Baptist Thursday night at home before taking on UTPB.  Last season the team went 3-11-4 overall and finished 3-7-4 in the RMAC.
