UT Permian Basin men's soccer opened Heartland Conference play today with a loss to Eastern New Mexico, 3-1.
Eastern New Mexico controlled the ball for much of the early part of the game, but it was UTPB that struck first.
Santi Morales ripped a shot from about 30 yards out that beat the goalkeeper inside the left post for his third goal of the season. Eastern New Mexico tied the score just a few minutes later on a Gabriel Peres penalty kick. Just over four minutes later Aderi Arthur-Dede put a cross into the back of the net for the 2-1 Eastern New Mexico lead.
The game would remain that way into the second half. At the 61:43 mark, William Sutton cleaned up a rebound for the third Eastern New Mexico goal. UTPB had a chance late on a run by
Jordan Bradley but he was turned aside by keeper Ross Dalton.
UTPB continues conference play this week with a home match against West Texas A&M on Saturday, before hitting the road next week.
