Volleyball Opens Home Slate With Trio of Conference Games

The UT Permian Basin volleyball team (5-4, 0-1) opens its home schedule this week with a trio of Lone Star Conference games.  The home opener is Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico, followed by MSU Texas at 6 p.m. on Friday and a 3:30 p.m. match with Cameron on Saturday.

UTPB opened last week with a 25-20, 25-9, 18-27, 25-20 victory over Texas A&M International (1-9).  UTPB dominated from start to finish, including a second set that saw them commit no errors to the 13 by International.  UTPB had a kill percentage of .313 for the match. 

UTPB opened its Lone Star Conference schedule on the road against Texas A&M – Kingsville on Saturday.  They fell 14-25, 20-25 and 23-25 in straight sets.

Eastern New Mexico (4-5, 2-0) comes into Odessa for the first UTPB home match of the season.  ENM started the season 2-5 on the season before opening conference play with sweeps of MSU Texas and Cameron.  They defeated MSU Texas in Wichita Falls 27-25, 25-17 and 25-21.  They then went to Lawton, Okla. and defeated Cameron 26-24, 25-15 and 25-18.  They are led by Jasmine Gannon with 138 kills, Kaitlyn Kluna with 220 assists, Alba Ontiveros with 183 digs and a tie between Jennifer Martinez and Julie Tucker with 24 blocks each.

Midwestern State Texas (2-8, 0-2) comes to the Falcon Dome on Friday.  The team started 2-1 including an upset victory over #16 Central Oklahoma in five sets.  Since then MSU Texas has lost seven in a row including their two conference matches with Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.  They lost in straight sets to WT 19-25, 18-25 and 17-25.  They are led by Addy Cook with 91 kills, Sarah Glawe with 174 assists, Erin Richburg with 87 digs and Sarah Eakin with 36 blocks.

UTPB finishes up their week on Saturday against Cameron (2-10, 0-2).  Cameron went 0-3 last week including their two conference matches.  They fell at Southern Nazarene on Tuesday in five sets, before coming home.  They fell to WT in four sets and ENM in straight sets.  Cameron is led by Paige Dixon with 127 kills, Katherine Manning with 278 assists, Brittnee Altic with 264 digs and Brandy Carr with 55 blocks.
