Men's Basketball Adds Maurice Walton for 2018-19

8/1/2018 9:09:00 AM

UT Permian Basin men's basketball coach Josh Newman announced Wednesday the addition of Maurice Walton for the 2018-19 season.

Walton, a 6-9 center from San Fernadino Valley, Calif., averaged 16.7 points and 8.5 rebounds in 19 minutes per game to lead the Coyotes in both categories at Chandler Gilbert Community College this past season. He increased his production to 18 points and nine rebounds in conference play and was a 1st-team All-ACCAC selection.

The incoming junior scored in double figures in 29 of 31 games last season, including a season-high 29 points with nine games of at least 20 points scored while shooting 60 percent on the year from the field.

"Moe is a young man we started recruiting the first day we started at UT Permian Basin,"  said Newman. "We knew we needed to add a quality inside presence to be successful in the Lone Star Conference, and Moe is just what we needed.  He will create a lot of pressure on opposing team's defenses with his size and ability to score in the post.  Besides being able to score on the block, he is an outstanding rebounder and exceptional passer with a high basketball IQ."
