Falcons Drop Pair at Eastern New Mexico

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin baseball fell twice on the road at Eastern New Mexico as the Greyounds put together some big innings in a pair of 11-5 and 15-8 defeats of the Falcons at Greyhound Park in Portales, N.M.

Game 1 

UTPB took an early lead in the opening game Saturday when Mike Fernandez hit a two-run blast to center field to drive in Tylor Frailey.

The Greyhounds came out an inning later with a six-run bottom of the third as part of eight-straight runs by ENMU to take an 8-2 lead through three innings.

UTPB fought back with one in the fourth on a double by Cooper Coe and two in the fifth on singles by Skyler Palermo and Alex Wixson to get within three runs at 8-5 through five innings, but the Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead back out to six runs at 11-5.

Frailey went 2-3 with a pair of runs and a walk out of the lead off spot in the lineup as each of the first four batters in the Falcon lineup scored in the opener. 

Four different batters drove in a pair of runs and four players scored twice for the Greyhounds.

Game 2

Eastern New Mexico wasted little time in scoring in game two, putting up an eight-run bottom of the first for an early 8-0 lead.

The Falcons clawed back in the third, scoring once on a Fernandez single back up the middle and getting four quick runs on a Dalton Drury grand slam to center field to pul back within three-runs at 8-5.

Eastern New Mexico added back four runs in the third, three on a home run by Garlind Webster to go back ahead 12-5.

A Drury triple scored Palermo in the top of the fifth, and the Falcons added runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings on a fielders choice by Fernandez in the 6th and a fielders choice by Chris Ortega in the 7th.

Drury drove in five runs in game two on a pair of extra-base hits for UTPB, while Webster matched his five RBI with three hits and two runs for the Greyhounds.

The fourth and final game of the weekend is set for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
