Falcons Walk-Off for Friday Sweep of Western New Mexico

Having won the opening game of the weekend 8-1, UT Permian Basin softball walked-off in extra innings Friday night in game two, winning 7-6 in nine innings to take a pair of Lone Star Conference contests at home against Western New Mexico.

Trailing 3-0 in the nightcap, UTPB grabbed one back on an Adrianna Berzoza home run in the bottom of the fourth.

April Arellano tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a base hit back up the middle to score Maritza Rojas and Berzoza.

Sloan Springfield gave UTPB its first lead in game two on a single to left to score Vanessa Alonzo.

A bunt single by Aubree Avila scored Arellano, and Springfield later stole home after a steal of second by Avila for a 6-3 lead.

The Mustangs came back strong in the top of the seventh, tying the contest on an Alicia Habitzreuther three-run home run to knot the game at 6-6.

Lasting until the bottom of the ninth, Jessica Gonzalez ended the night with a single deep to right that scored Arellano for the 7-6 victory.

Berzoza led the Falcons in the seven-run victory in game one, driving in three runs including a two-run home run for the game's first runs in the bottom of the first. Rojas led UTPB with a 3-3 day at the plate, scoring twice with an RBI.

Cindy Juarez went seven innings for her fourth win of the season. She allowed six hits and a walk with a strikeout while giving up one earned run in the complete game.

The Falcons and Mustangs wrap up the weekend Saturday afternoon with one LSC game followed by a non-conference contest.
