Box Score UT Permian Basin baseball played Angelo State tight through eight innings, but the Rams scored six runs in the top of the ninth en route to a 9-2 win over UTPB at Roden Field in Odessa Sunday afternoon.
Angelo State pushed the first two runs across the plate in the 3rd and fifth innings, taking a 1-0 lead on a single by Brian Mathiowetz in the top of the third and a run by Alex Salcido on a wild pitch in the fifth.Â
UTPBÂ pushed its first across in the bottom of the 7th, when
Andrew Donovan ripped a ground ball back up the middle of the infield over the pitchers mound to drive in Alex Wixson.
The Rams grabbed one back in the 8th on a wild pitch, and opened the floodgates in the 9th with a 6-run inning.
Tony Oslovar grabbed a run back for UTPB in the ninth, walking with the bases loaded to bring home
Cooper Coe.
Ivan Thomas had one of his best starts of the season, throwing 7.2 innings while allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits and four walks. He stuck out six Rams in the appearance. His defense was big behind him as the Falcons recorded three double plays on the afternoon.
UTPBÂ closes out the 2018 season next weekend at Eastern New Mexico.
