Rams Break Tie with Three in Ninth, Down Falcons 5-2

UT Permian Basin fell in their series opener to Angelo State by a final score of 5-2 after the Rams scored three in the top of the ninth to win the weekend opener.

The game remained scoreless into the bottom of the third inning. Tony Oslovar got things going for UTPB with a two-out single. Mike Fernandez followed it up with a double and Oslovar came around to score when the ball was bobbled in center field. The Rams (29-14, 10-7) would answer in the top of the fourth when Jacob Boston would score on a wild pitch. They would take the lead in the fifth on a solo home run by Brad Mathiowetz.

The Falcons (7-35, 3-14)would have a great chance in their half of the sixth. Fernandez and Skyler Palermo walked to lead off the inning. Dalton Drury followed it up with an RBI-single to tie the game at two. Alex Wixson would be hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shane Browning would come out of the bullpen for the Rams and retire the next three batters to escape trouble.

The game would remain tied until the ninth. After a lead-off walk, Michael Urquidi doubled to make it 3-2. They would continue in the inning and add two more to make it 5-2.

Matt Williams (0-2) took the loss for the Falcons while Shane Browning (4-3) picked up the win in relief. Kellen Rholl picked up his seventh save of the season.

Wixson led the Falcons with a pair of hits including a double. Fernandez also had a double.

These two teams continue their series tomorrow with a double header including senior day ceremonies to take place in between the games.
