Baseball Comeback Falls Short Against Javelinas

UT Permian Basin (6-32, 2-11) dropped game one of a four-game set to #19 Texas A&M – Kingsville (29-9, 8-5) by a final score of 5-3.

Kingsville struck first with three runs in the second, two of them off the bat of Will Arnold on a double to right field. UTPB would strike back in the third with a solo home run from Chris Ortega, his second of the year, to make it 3-1. In the fourth, Simon Clarke would double home Dalton Drury to make it 3-2. Kingsville would get those runs make in the fifth. Skyler Palermo would hit his second home run of the season in the sixth to make it 5-3, which would end up as the final. UTPB had a chance with bases loaded and one out in the eighth but failed to capitalize.

Andrew Loudermilk (0-6) went all eight innings for UTPB, striking out seven and allowing six hits. Tyler Flores (5-0) went seven innings for Kingsville while Joshua Valdez picked up his third save of the season. Loudermilk also picked off a runner in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Ortega and Palermo each had a pair of hits for UTPB along with an RBI. Ortega had the only stolen base for UTPB as well.

These two teams continue their series with a pair of games on Saturday before finishing on Sunday.
