Texas A&M Kingsville held UT Permian Basin softball to one run Saturday afternoon in a pair of Lone Star Conference games, defeating the Falcons 6-1 and 6-0 at Hubert Field in Kingsville, Texas.
Maritza Rojas drove in the team's lone run of the game in the Falcons half of the sixth, singling to left center with a pair of runners on base to drive home Aubree Avila.
Kingsville started the game with five straight runs, scoring once in each of the first and third innings with a three-spot in the bottom of the second inning.
Sarah Gilbert went the distance for Kingsville, allowing three hits and one run with six strikeouts and no walks.Â
Maritza Rojas was hit for six runs and eight hits, walking a pair and striking out two.
Avila went 2-2 at the plate for the Falcons, scoring the team's lone run.
UTPBÂ recorded six base hits in game two by six different players, but stranded seven runners on base as Kingsville picked up a 6-0 shutout.Â
Loren Kelly and Loren Oatman each score twice; Kelly with three hits and Oatman a pair of hits and two RBI.
Abby Hernandez reached twice for UTPB at the top of the lineup, getting on with a single and a walk.
Ashlynn Williams had the team's lone extra-base hit, a double to right center in the top of the seventh.
UTPB is back in non-conference action this coming week, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, for a midweek series at Lubbock Christian Tuesday afternoon at 3 & 5 p.m.
