Jessica Gonzalez led the Falcon offense with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate, but West Texas A&M scored five runs in the opening two innings to take game one of the three-game set 9-1 in six innings Thursday night in Canyon, Texas.
The Lady Buffs (27-5) led early in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Kylee Moore. Another extra base hit, a triple by Kourtney Coveney in the bottom of the second, scored two more as part of a three-run second for the 5-0 lead.
Gonzalez drove in the Falcons (12-25) lone run of the game in the UTPB third, scoring
Ashlynn Williams on a single into left field.
Coveney paced the West Texas offense, driving in four on the night with a pair of runs and two hits.
The teams are back at Schaeffer Park Friday afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
