UT Permian Basin split a double header against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday in Odessa.
UTPB snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 12-6 victory in the first game. ENM jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. UTPB answered it right back with an Alex Wixson RBI single to tie the game. Alex De La Cruz would homer for ENM to retake the lead in the third inning. Another run would score on a wild pitch before Reynaldo Guillen would knock another run in on a triple and would score himself on an errant throw to make it 5-1. Dalton Drury would come into score in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch. ENM would get another run in the fourth on a walk by Guillen to make it a 6-2 game.
That's when the UTPB bats would wake up. In the bottom of the fourth Mitchell Hazlett would walk and Tony Oslovar would follow that with a single. Then with one out, Cooper Coe launched a three-run home run to left field, his first of the season, and make it a 6-5 game. Andrew Loudermilk and Nick Bartley would combine to pitch a scoreless fifth.
Hazlett and Oslovar would lead off the fifth with a pair of walks. Skyler Palermo would drive them in on a double to left center field and grab a 7-6 lead. Coe would follow that up with a walk to put two on. Dalton Drury would drive in a run with a double of his own and Frailey followed that with a double to plate two more and make it 10-6. After a Mike Fernandez walk, Alex Wixson doubled into the right field corner for two more runs and a 12-6 lead. Matt Symczak would pitch the final two innings without giving up a run in the victory.
ENM jumped out early with a solo home run by Julian Heredia in the second inning of the second game. ENM scored three more in the third with a pair of RBI singles by Guillen and Garlind Webster to make it 4-0. UTPB cut the lead in half with a two-run home run by Palermo in the fourth inning. That's as close as they would get as ENM would add two in the fifth and three in the seventh for a 9-2 final.
Nick Bartley picked up the win in the first game, his first of the season while Ivan Thomas lost the second game for UTPB. Blake Frye took the loss in game one for ENM while Keenan Dodd went seven innings to pick up the win in the second game.
