UT Permian Basin softball broke out the offense in game one Sunday morning, scoring four straight runs in the first two innings in defeating Texas Wesleyan 8-1. The Rams came back to limit the Falcons in a 3-1 defeat in Fort Worth.
Leading 1-0 after an
Adrianna Berzoza RBI single in the first inning, Lizzie Souza came up with a two-run single in the top of the second for the 3-0 lead. She later came in to score on a passed ball for the 4-0 lead.
Holding a 5-1 advantage in the fifth, Souza drove home her third run of the day to score
Ashlynn Williams.
Cindy Juarez had a run-scoring hit in the sixth and Berzoza later scored in the inning on an error at short for the 8-1 lead.
Souza led the Falcons with three RBI and five different Falcons had a pair of hits in the game. Berzoza and Williams each plated a pair of runs.
Cindy Juarez picked up her second win of the season, allowing seven hits and one run in the complete game. She struck out a pair of batters and walked none.
Souza had a game-tying hit in game two, a home run to right center field in the top of the fifth to even the game at 1-1.
Texas Wesleyan responded by claiming the lead back in the bottom half of the frame with a home run of its own, and added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Maritza Rojas and Berzoza each had a pair of hits in game two for UTPB.
Rojas gave up a pair of runs in the circle for UTPB on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The Falcons are back in Lone Star Conference action next weekend with a three-game series at Texas A&M - Commerce.
