Box Score 2 UT Permian Basin dropped both ends of a double header to Angelo State on Saturday. They lost the first game 9-7 and fell in the second 15-3.
Angelo grabbed the lead in the second on a ground out. In the third inning Skyler Palermo came around to score on an errant throw to tie the game. Angelo State would answer with six runs in the bottom half of the inning on the strength of five hits. A double by Dalton Drury plated a run in the fifth for the Falcons. Another run would come in on a Mike Fernandez sacrifice fly before a balk brought in another to make it a 7-4 game. Angelo State would get a run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 9-4 game.
UTPB would not go quietly in their last inning. Fernandez hit a two-run home run and two batters later Mitchell Hazlett had a solo home run to make it a 9-7 game. UTPB would get the tying run on first before Palermo got out to end the game.
UTPB would start the second game with a bang with a lead-off home run by Drury. Angelo State would get a run in the bottom of the second before exploding for five in the fourth inning. Angelo would get two more in the fifth before striking for seven in the sixth inning. The big blow coming on a three-run triple by Parker Bramlett. Fernandez would single in the seventh to plate a pair before finishing with a 15-3 score.
Fernandez led the Falcons going 4-7 with five RBI plus the home run. Hazlett had a pair of hits including a home run. Drury had a pair of hits and RBI between the two games. Matt Symczak took the loss in the first game to drop to 0-4 while Nick Bartley dropped to 0-2 with a loss in the second game. Kellen Rholl got the win in the first game for Angelo State with Jared Velasco picking up the save. Trent Baker got the win in game two.
These two teams finish up their four-game series Sunday before UTPB comes home with a four-game weekend series against Eastern New Mexico starting Friday.
