UT Permian Basin couldn't hang onto an early lead and lost 6-5 to Lubbock Christian, on a walk-off single by Logan Grado, in Lubbock on Sunday.

UTPB came out hot scoring three runs in the second inning. Choco Munoz started things off with an RBI double to center field to score Cindy Juarez. Munoz came around to score on an error and then Abby Hernandez beat out an infield single to make the lead 3-0.

Ashlynn Williams plated Adrianna Berzoza on a single in the third chasing starting pitcher Amber Carlton. The following at-bat, Aubree Avila plated a run on a fielder's choice and the lead was 5-0.

In the fourth Lubbock got a run on the board with a bases loaded walk followed by a two-run single by Lindzi Clemmer to make the score 5-3. Sloan Springfield came into the game to pitch for starter Maritza Rojas with one out in the sixth and the bases loaded. Springfield escaped the inning only allowing one run hanging onto a 5-4 lead into the seventh.

Lubbock was able to load the bases in the seventh before Grado singled in two runs to end the game.

Springfield took the loss for UTPB her second on the season while Clarissa Martinez got her first win of the season for Lubbock, only allowing one hit over 4.2 innings.

Berzoza lead UTPB with two hits giving her a team high six for the season. Avila led the team with two RBI giving her four for the season.

UTPB travels to Hobbs, New Mexico to take on the University of the Southwest in a double-header Tuesday before heading to Mesquite for five games over the weekend.
