Falcons Open Lone Star Slate Saturday against Western New Mexico

UT Permian Basin men's basketball opens up its 2018-19 Lone Star Conference schedule Saturday afternoon when the Falcons welcome Western New Mexico to Odessa with a 4 p.m. tip-off.

The Falcons enter the conference portion of their schedule with a 6-1 record and are the best offensive team in the league through seven games. UTPB leads all Lone Star Conference teams averaging 88.4 points per game with a conference-best scoring margin of 14.4 points per contest. Jacob Ledoux ranks second in the league, averaging 16.4 points per game and Kyree Elder is 11th in the LSC, scoring 13.7 points per game.

UTPB opened the season with a pair of big in-region wins, starting 2018 with a 101-98 victory at Adams State and a 98-86 win at Western State Colorado. The Falcons added another regional victory against Texas A&M International, defeating the Dustdevils on the road 53-50. They came home and have added three more wins against Sul Ross, Our Lady of the Lake, and University of the Southwest heading into this weekend.

Western New Mexico enters this weekend with a 3-2 record. The Mustangs also went 2-0 on opening weekend, defeating New Mexico Highlands 81-75 and knocking off Fort Lewis 74-70. They added a 70-62 win over Texas A&M International.

WNMU averages 74.2 points per game on offense while also giving up 72.2 ppg to opposing teams. Willie McCray leads the Mustangs with 16.3 ppg on offense while John-Reese Woodson adds 14 ppg with 6.0 rebounds per game.
