Falcons Fall in Overtime 98-96 to Jarvis Christian

UT Permian Basin men's basketball rebounded from trailing by 16 points in the first half to taking a 15-point lead after halftime, but the Falcons fell in overtime 98-96 Sunday afternoon at the UTPB Gym in Odessa.

Jarvis Christian used a hot-shooting afternoon from 3-point range, hitting 18 3-pointers on the day in the come-from-behind victory. Lee Lincoln led all players in the game with 40 points as he hit 10-23 from beyond the arc in the game.

Trailing 31-15, the Falcons (8-3) were able to close the Bulldog lead down to five points at 35-30 behind a 9-0 run with five points from Isaiah Hammons and a pair of baskets by Xavier Ledet.

UTPB cut the gap to three points heading into halftime with a three-point play by Jacob Ledoux followed by a pair at the line from Maurice Walton with 30 seconds remaining to trail by a single possession at the break.

The Falcons looked to have the game in hand late in the second half. UTPB doubled-up a six point lead to a 12-point advantage with a layup by Kyree Elder, free throw from Isaac Hernandez and a 3-pointer from Ledoux to lead 71-59. Elder and Ledoux hit back-to back layups on consecutive possessions for a 77-62 lead with 5:33 remaining in regulation. 

The Bulldogs hit three 3-pointers on their way back, and were able to tie the game on a basket by Chasten King with 24 seconds left in the half.

The Falcons led by as many as four early on in overtime when Ledet hit a layup and Ledoux connected on a pair at the line, but a three from Lincoln brought the Bulldogs back within a point. 

Lee gave Jarvis Christian their first lead in OT with a pair at the line to go ahead 90-89 with 3:30 remaining.

The lead changed hands four times in the final 1:15, Miles Washington hitting a layup for the first to go on top 93-92. Elder later hit a pair at the line to go back ahead 95-94, but King hit a 3-point play to give Jarvis the lead back for the last time in the eventual two-point Bulldog win.

Ledoux led the Falcons with 24 points on the day, hitting 10-17 from the field while also tying the team lead with nine rebounds. Ledet added nine boards and 17 points on 8-12 shooting from the field. Washington scored 10 points with seven reboudns, and Hammons had a season-high 10 assists to lead all players. Elder added 18 points off the bench, scoring all of his points in the second half and overtime.

UTPB returns to Lone Star Conference action this coming week, hosting West Texas A&M Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
