Slow Start Hurts Falcons in Loss at Lubbock Christian

Box Score A slow start by UT Permian Basin men's basketball combined by a red-hot Lubbock Christian in the first haf cost the Falcons in a n 87-64 loss Wednesday night in Lubbock, Texas.

The hometown Chaps (7-4) couldn't miss in the opening minutes, hitting five of their first six field goals at the start of the game for an 11-2 early advantage. Combined with a 1-7 start from the field by the Falcons, Lubbock Christian pushed that out to an 18-4 lead. 

LCU went on to hit 13 of its first 17 field goal attempts on their way to a 31-6 lead.

The Falcons (8-2) were able to claw back late in the first half, using a 12-2 run to close within 41-24 before trailing 45-26 at halftime. Walton scored eight of the team's 12 points during that span to lead the Falcons with 10 points at halftime.

Adam Rivera had a big second half for the Falcons, scoring 16 points in the final 20 minutes on 6-7 shooting with three 3-pointers on the night.  He ended the night leading UTPB in scoring with 21 points and was also the team-leader with eight rebounds.

Jacob Ledoux also scored in double figures adding 15 points while Walton ended the game scoring 11 on 5-9 shooting.

Brennen Fowler and Isaac Asrat tied for the LCU scoring lead with 16 points each, Fowler recording a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds as the Chaps had five players in double figures.

UTPB is off for the next week and a half, returning after the holidays for a Dec. 30 afternoon contest against Jarvis Christian.
