UT Permian Basin men's basketball opened its 2018-19 home schedule with a convincing 103-69 Thanksgiving Eve victory in Odessa.
The Falcons (4-1) featured five players on the night that scored in double figures, led by
Jacob Ledoux's 19 points, and all five ended the night shooting at least 50 percent on the night. The Falcons also ended the game with a season-high 21 assists.
"It was great to see the community to come out and support our team with a great crowd the day before Thanksgiving," said head coach
Josh Newman. "It was great to see the guys shoot the ball well but even better than that was I was glad to see us willingly make the extra pass. Having 21 assists on the night was great to see. We've really talked the last couple of days about sharing and moving the ball. It was good to see that they listened and were actively trying to improve their teammates."
UTPBÂ poured on the points in the first half, hitting 18-29 from the field (62.1 percent) with four three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes to take a 21-point, 50-29 halftime lead.
Maurice Walton led UTPB with 12 points on 6-8 shooting in 15 first half minutes while also grabbing five boards.
Jacob Ledoux and
Isaac Hernandez each added 10 points, Hernandez hitting all three of hit field goals that included two beyond the arc.
UT Permian Basin continued the efficient offense in the second half, hitting 59.5 percent of its shots (22-37) after the half.Â
Ledoux led all players in the game with 19 points, hitting 8-12 shots with a pair of three-pointers. Walton added his first double-double of the season with a season-high 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyree Elder had a team-high five assists to go with 13 points on 4-5 shooting and two baskets from downtown. Hernandez added 16 points off the bench with a team-high four 3-pointers, and
Isaiah Hammons had 10 points on 4-6 shooting.
UT Permian Basin returns home in a week, staying home in Odessa with a Nov. 28 game against Our Lady of the Lake. Tip next Wednesday night is set for 7 p.m.
