LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons are coming off of a 24-7 loss last week on the road against Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M. UTPB was held to just 278 yards of offense on the day and just one score in the loss.
The Falcons came out of the gates looking to surprise the Greyhounds with an onside-kick which they recovered. Â The Falcons turned the ball over unable to convert on fourth down, and the Greyhounds marched down the field in 14 plays to take a 3-0 lead on a 47-yard field goal by Tyler Vargas. Â The Falcon offense would once again drive into Greyhound territory where they would be stopped again on fourth and short. Â The Greyhounds scored again on Wyatt Strand's 10-yard run to go up 10-0 after a quarter.
The Greyhounds drove into Falcon territory once again in the second quarter, but
Chris Hoad forced and recovered a fumble at the 17-yard-line. Â The Falcon offense would get going on the ensuing drive. Â Keyed by a 42-yard pass from
Taylor Null to
Kyle McBride to get into Greyhound territory, they would convert fourth and short later in the drive on a run by
Kameron Mathis on a QB keeper. Â Mathis would cap the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to make it 10-7 with just over two minutes to play in the first half. Â But the Greyhounds marched down the field again and Strand would hit Johnny Smith for a 12 yard touchdown just before halftime to make it 17-7.
Eastern New Mexico scored the only points in the second half when Paul Terry rushed in from nine-yards out to cap an eight play, 41 yard drive halfway through the third quarter.
Taylor Null was held to just 163 yards passing and no touchdowns for the Falcons. Â
Kyle McBride led the receivers with seven catches for 85 yards, while the ground game combined for 90 yards. Â Hoad led the way for the Falcon defense with 19 tackles while forcing and recovering a fumble. Â The Falcon defense did hold the Greyhounds to 227 yards rushing, 60 yards under their season average on the season. Â
