Box Score Despite entering halftime tied at 21, the UT Permian Basin Falcons fell to West Texas A&M 42-21 in Canyon on Saturday night.
After stopping the Buffs (4-2, 2-1) on their first drive, the Falcons (1-5, 1-3) struck fast. On their second play from scrimmage,
Taylor Null found
Kyle McBride in stride down the sideline for an 82-yard touchdown. The Buffs would answer back a few drives later on a one-yard run by Duke Carter IV. They would take the lead when Justin Houghtaling found Jordan Johnson for a 17-yard score. After a Falcons punt, Tobias Harris returned it 66-yards to push the Buff lead to 14.
The Falcons would answer on the next drive. Null once again found McBride down the sideline for a 43-yard strike to open the drive. Later in the drive on third down,
Leroy Giles went up the middle 25 yards to put the ball on the one-yard-line. On a play action pass Null found
Matt Zubiate to cut the lead to 21-14.Â
After a missed Buff field goal late in the first half, Null would find
Ben Galaviz for eight yards on fourth down to keep the drive alive and the clock running.Â
Marquis Simmons would pick up a 16-yard run to give the Falcons the ball on the three.Â
Kameron Mathis would run around the right side for the score with 10 seconds on the clock and tie the game at the half at 21.
The Buffs would strike first in the second half. Houghtaling completed a 35-yard pass to extend a drive that would be finished off by Carter IV. He would go on to add another touchdown later in the quarter to make it 35-21. Carter IV would add a fourth touchdown on a 31-yard run to make it 42-21 Buffs.
The Falcons were held to 42 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter. Null finished with 194 yards and two touchdowns. Simmons led the Falcons on the ground with 44 yards while McBride finished with 125 yards receiving and a touchdown.
The Falcons return home for their Homecoming Game against Humboldt State next Saturday, Oct. 13.Â
