Falcon Offense Quiet in Loss to Eastern New Mexico

Box Score Unable to get their offense going, UT Permian Basin football fell to Eastern New Mexico 24-7 in Portales on Saturday.

The Falcons came out of the gates looking to surprise the Greyhounds with an onside-kick which they would recover.  The Falcons turned the ball over unable to convert on fourth down.  The Greyhounds would drive down the field in 14 plays to take a 3-0 lead on a 47-yard field goal by Tyler Vargas.  The Falcon offense would once again drive into Greyhound territory where they would be stopped again on fourth and short.  The Greyhounds would score again on Wyatt Strand's 10-yard run to go up 10-0 after a quarter.

The Greyhounds would drive into Falcon territory once again in the second quarter, but Chris Hoad would force and recover at the 17-yard-line.  The Falcon offense would get going on the ensuing drive.  Keyed by a 42-yard pass from Taylor Null to Kyle McBride to get into Greyhound territory.  They would convert fourth and short later in the drive on a run by Kameron Mathis.  Mathis would cap the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to make it 10-7 with just over two minutes to play.  The Greyhounds would drive down the field again and Strand would hit Johnny Smith just before halftime to make it 17-7.

The Greyhounds would score again on their first drive of the second half when Paul Terry would run it in from nine yards out.  The Falcon offense struggled to get going in the second half.  The Falcons were held to just 67 yards in the fourth quarter while the Greyhound triple option attack ran down the clock.  

Null was held to just 163 yards passing and no touchdowns.  McBride led the receivers with seven catches for 85 yards, while the ground game combined for 90 yards on the ground.  Hoad led the way for the Falcon defense with 19 tackles while forcing and recovering a fumble.  The Falcon defense did hold the Greyhounds to 227 yards rushing, 60 yards under their season average on the season.  

The Falcons return home for Senior Day and their final home game when they take on defending national champions Texas A&M - Commerce next Saturday.
