Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons Stay Alive With Overtime Win at Midwestern State

It took overtime, but UT Permian Basin women's soccer picked up their first conference win of the season 2-1 over Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

The Falcon (2-13, 1-9) offense was kept quiet for the entire first half, unable to register a shot.  While the Mustangs (2-10-2, 1-7-1) kept possession for most of the half, Raeann Garcia kept them out of the net.   At the 30:04 mark, Randi Heaton would convert a penalty kick to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead which they would keep heading into the half.

The Falcon offense finally broke through in the second half.  On their first shot of the game in the 59th minute, Caitlin Gomez scored her first goal of the season from 16 yards out on an assist from Julia Funck and tie the game at one.  Neither team could get much offense going the rest of the half except the Mustangs when Julia Orozco's shot hit the crossbar, and the game would head into overtime.

In overtime the Falcons would register one shot but it would end up over the net by Ariel Roybal.  In the 95th minute, the Mustangs would knock the ball into their own net for an own goal and a 2-1 overtime victory for the Falcons.  With the win the Falcons remain alive in the race for the Lone Star Conference playoffs.

Next week the Falcons wrap up the season with a pair of road games.  On Friday they head to Portales, N.M. to take on Eastern New Mexico before finishing up on Sunday at West Texas A&M.
