Daeshon Francis scored his 1,000th career point 3:15 into the game but #8 UT Permian Basin fell to #10 West Texas A&M in Canyon.
Francis scored his 1,000th point on a lay-up and foul early in the first half and finished with a team high 26 points, along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Both teams traded baskets early before West Texas A&M caught fire from beyond the three-point arc. A Sammy Allen lay-up tied the score at 19 before West Texas went on their run. A 28-10 run pushed their lead to 18 with the team hitting 9-22 on three-pointers, 40.9 percent.
In the second half the closest UTPB would cut the lead to was 11 before an 8-0 run by West Texas pushed the lead to 19. After a technical foul the Falcons made all four free throw attempts to stay in the game. With the score 77-64 and some momentum going the way of the Falcons CJ Jennings went on his own 8-0 run. David Chavlovich scored 21 points in the second half and finished the game with 26.
Amari Bryant scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and James McPherson added 16 going 3-4 on three-pointers in the second half.
Chavlovich lead West Texas in scoring while also having nine assists. Gage Prim added 18 points with 12 rebounds and Jennings had 16 on the night.
UTPB returns to action Thursday, Feb. 8,  traveling to Wichita Falls for a 7:30 p.m. tip off next week.
