UT Permian Basin men's and women's swimming and diving closed out its 2017-18 regular season with a pair of commanding victories. The UTPBÂ Men won 157-121 while the Falcon Women picked up a 153-106 win against Southwestern Saturday afternoon in Georgetown, Texas.
Both the men and women's teams each had a pair of swimmers with two different individual victories on the day. Nikita Naumov won a pair of 200 yard races, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:46.72 and the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 2:01.88. Jakub Murici won a pair of 100 yard races, the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.45 and the 100 butterfly in 53.77.
Additional wins for the Falcon men included Tyler Smits finishing the 1,000 freestyle in 10:20.85, Jacob Allard winning the 200 backstroke in 1:57.11, Garrett Martin breaking his own school record in 1m diving with a score of 319.5, and a pair of relay wins. Gustavo Damis Resende, Jakub Murici, Nikita Naumov and Jeremy Pantalion took first place in the men's 200 Medley with a time of 1:38.76, and the Falcons swam the 800 freestyle in 7:14.85 as Matthew Hayward, Jeremy Pantalion, Tyler Smits and Nikita Naumov finished first.
Bailey Benson and Hunter Bishop each won two different events for the UTPB women. Benson finished the 1,000 freestyle in 11:36.50 and won the 200 butterfly in 2:26.55. Bishop won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.31 and took first in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 25.46.
Jennifer Sites took first place in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.39,
Claire Balmer won the 200 backstroke in 2:20.78, Juliana Kikumoto Dias won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:35.94, and
Haylei Scoggins won the 200 IM in 2:24.27.
Hunter Bishop, Bailey Benson,
Haylei Scoggins and Deena White won the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:36.27.
The Falcons conclude their season next month, traveling to Cleveland, Miss., for the 2018 New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships on the campus of Delta State.
