Box Score A monster second half lead #6 UT Permian Basin to a 79-50 win over Texas A&M – Kingsville, their eleventh straight victory. UTPB outscored Kingsville 49-23 in the second half shooting 66.6 percent from the field.
Josh Morris was once again unstoppable, scoring a game high 20 points and added a game high eight rebounds. James McPherson added 19 points and six rebounds while shooting 7-7 from the free throw line.
UTPB opened the first half with an 11-5 run led by three dunks from Morris. Despite starting 1-10 from the field Kingsville stayed in the game due to uncharacteristic play by UTPB. Daeshon Francis picked up two fouls in the first five minutes and only played six minutes in the first half. Morris had two fouls and Garrett Baggett picked up three before the end of the half. UTPB also committed 12 turnovers to keep Kingsville in the game.
A Trey Sumpter three pointer made it a one point game a minute into the second half but it was all UTPB from there. Morris hit two lay-ups and a foul shot on consecutive possessions to stretch the lead while Kingsville went ice cold. Kingsville hit a jumper with 17:56 remaining and wouldn't make another until 10:13 going 0-10 from the field.
UTPB held Kingsville to just 29.8 percent shooting while shooting 53.7 percent themselves. It was a balanced attack with Francis adding nine points and six rebounds, Sammy Allen adding six points, eight assists and six rebounds and Renard Thomas adding eight points and four rebounds on 4-5 shooting.
Christian Bambrook had a big first half for Kingsville with 10 points, three rebounds and three blocks but finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Caelan Neal also added 12 points and four assists for Kingsville.
UTPB travels to Angelo State Saturday night before coming home to take on Texas A&M – Commerce next Thursday.
