Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots Fast Start Sends Falcons to 3-2 Loss

Brandon Lee scored his sixth of the season and Esai Cortez added his second of the year early in the second half, but a pair of goals by Dallas Baptist in the first 12 minutes carried the Patriots to a 3-2 win over UT Permian Basin men's soccer Thursday night in Heartland Conference action at the UTPB Turf Field. The game started 1:35 late due to lightning in the area.

Ethan Martinez scored at 3:12 for an early 1-0 DBU lead after Garret Morgan picked off a pass at midfield, drove down the length of the UTPB zone and passed around Falcon goalkeeper Lucas Gomez for the Moran finish for the first goal of the game in the fourth minute.

Riley Unger doubled up the advantage nine minutes later, hitting a hard short hop that bounced high in the air from the top of the box off a cross to clear the bottom of the cross bar at 12;03.

Lee answered quickly for UTPB, scoring under two minutes later on a header from Ollie Grundy to pull back within a goal.

Morgan re-established the two-goal lead at 46:43, scoring early in the second half on a hard, low drive from the right side to the left post.

Cortez once again responded right away for the Falcons with his second goal of the season 48 seconds later.

Both teams were down to 10 men at points in the second half, DBU playing the final 38 minutes short a man after a pair of yellows were issued, while the Falcons lost a player on a straight red card that was  issued as players were jostling for position.

UTPB is back at home this weekend, hosting St. Edward's Saturday afternoon in conference action at 1 p.m.
