Falcons Power Past Wayland Baptist for Opening Day 4-2 Win

UT Permian Basin men's soccer scored the final three goals of the game Friday afternoon and had four different players score as the Falcons started the season 1-0 with an opening day 4-2 victory on the road in non-conference action against Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas.

The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead on Stefan Faria's first goal at UTPB on a header from 15 feet away in the fifth minute.

Wayland Baptist got goals from Raheem Fleming and Cooper Gaypia at 11;32 and 24:24, respectively, to climb back and take its first lead of the game.

Brandon Lee found the equalizer at 32:03 in the first half on a 1v1 shot from in front of the keeper to knot the contest at 2-2 heading into halftime.

The final 45 minutes belonged to the visitors as Frankie Rodriguez put the Falcons ahead 3-2 at 52:51, driving down the middle of the field to score.

Esai Cortez gave the Falcons a much-needed insurance goal 12 minutes later on a blast from 30 yards away.

The Falcons closed out the victory down a pair of men in the final five minutes in a match that featured 11 total cards issued to the two teams.
