Andy Newman announced Monday that Rae Booth has been named Women's Basketball coach at UT Permian Basin.
"Coach Boothe came very highly recommended from a whole lot of people in the basketball community," said Newman. "We're really lucky to get someone with her kind of credentials at UTPB. Two things that really stood out are how much she really cares about her student-athletes success off the court, and then what her teams were able to do on the court, with a 103-29 conference record over seven seasons and her up-tempo style of play. Between her commitment to academic success, caring about the student-athletes experience, and that she flat-out wins made her a perfect fit for UTPB."
Boothe comes to UTPB after seven seasons at Friends University in Wichita, Kan. where she coached the Falcons to a 159-69 overall record and 103-24 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference mark. She led her teams to five NAIA National Tournament appearances in her seven years at Friends.
"I like to play very fast and recruit lots of athletes," Boothe noted. "We're always going to get after it by trying to control every part of rebounding and scaring teams on defense. We're always going to work hard and hopefully be the hardest team in the league to play against because effort is controllable."
Coach Boothe has coached six NAIA All-Americans, one KCAC Player of the Year, four KCAC Defensive Players of the Year, 20 All-Conference players, and was named conference coach of the year twice in 2012 & 2013.
"It was very difficult to leave, but they're also in a position to win a national championship. So leaving it the right way in great shape, I'm proud of that. As a coach I wanted to be at the division II level. So professionally it was a great move but I think this place has an unbelievable amount of potential, and it's a great time to come here."
She began her coaching career with two seasons as an assistant at Warner University before returning to her alma mater, Brenau University, for four seasons before coaching at Friends.
