Dominguez Goes the Distance for 6-3 Win over Eastern New Mexico

Nate Dominguez picked up his first win of the season Saturday afternoon in throwing seven innings to pick up a 6-3 win over Eastern New Mexico in Lone Star Conference play at Roden Field.

Dominguez gave up a pair of runs in the first inning to trail right away but settled down the remainder of the game, giving up just one more unearned run in the top of the seventh. He ended the afternoon allowing nine hits with three walks while striking out four Greyhounds.

UTPB evened the game at 2-2 when Doug Clapperton scored on a single by Tyler Houlihan in the third and took its first lead when Houlihan scored on a base hit by Daniel Andrade. Andrade later came in to touch home plate on a line drive by Jordan Zazulak that hit off the leg of the ENMU pitcher and ricocheted between first and second to score Andrade from second.

The Falcons added two more runs in the fourth; a bases loaded HBP with Mike Fernandez at the plate to drive home Jackson Pritchard, and Houlihan scoring on a bases loaded fielder's choice with an out made at second.

Eastern New Mexico dominated the latter stages of game two of the doubleheader, scoring 10 runs in the final two innings for a 14-4 win.

UTPB scored twice in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double by Mike Fernandez to trail 4-2 after five innings. The Falcons scored twice more in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by Cole Dickie and a wild pitch.

The two teams close out the 2017 season Sunday afternoon, with first pitch coming at 1 p.m.
