Brooks Signs Professional Contract with Kansas City Chiefs

5/1/2017 1:19:00 PM

UT Permian Basin football hit another milestone this past weekend as the first-year program had its first player sign an NFL contract when OL Corin Brooks signed as an UDFA Saturday night with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brooks, a Riverside, Calif. native, started all 11 games last season at left tackle for the Falcons in the team's inaugural season.

"For the players here, especially the young ones that have been with us for a year or two, it shows validity to the process and program that some weren't confident existed," said UT Permian Basin head coach Justin Carrigan. "At the end of the year I had a freshman ask about the opportunities to go pro and as opposed to telling him that the teams will find you if you can play, it shows them now that as a start-up program, for a guy to still sign that the NFL will look under every rock and that the opportunities are there. It shows them that it's possible and something to hope for."

Brooks, likely to play guard in the NFL, will head to Kansas City this Friday in preparation for the Chiefs' rookie mini-camp. He had offers from multiple teams and signed with KC in part when the Chiefs ended the 2017 Draft without selecting an offensive lineman with one of their six picks.
