Softball Pounds Way Past Mustangs for Weekend Sweep

UT Permian Basin softball combined for four home runs and Daisy Aguilar hit a pair of dingers in the opening game Saturday afternoon as UTPB collected a pair of 15-7 and 6-2 wins over Western New Mexico to collect the weekend sweep over the Mustangs.

Aguilar went deep for a three-run jack in the first to lead 4-0, and later went yard for a two-run home run in the top of the third.

Cindy Juarez added her second home run of the weekend in the top of the fifth to give the Falcons an 8-1 advantage.

UTPB nearly doubled up its run total in the seventh, scoring seven runs in the frame as Juarez, Alexis Watson, Lizzie Souza, Alyssa Lopez and Melissa Zuniga all collected RBIs in the inning to lead 15-1.

Faries got her third win of the season for UTPB, throwing 6.1 innings and before the Mustang offense woke up trailing by 14 in the 7th.

Adrianna Berzoza led the Falcons with three hits as six different batters collected multiple hits, Aguilar drove in five runs and Juarez four, while she tied with Berzoza with three runs scored.

UTPB fought back in game two after giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to trail 2-0. Watson drove in a run in the top of the fourth, and Zuniga tied the game with a home run to left in the top of the fifth. UTPB added three more runs in the fifth on RBIs from Berzoza, Aguilar and Watson, and a Jessica Gonzalez groundout drove in the team's sixth and final run of the day.

Randi May earned her first win of the season, giving up a pair of unearned runs in 5.2 innings.
