Cindy Juarez launched a grand slam for an early lead and Kylee Foster tossed five shutout innings as UT Permian Basin softball scored an 8-0 win at Western New Mexico Friday afternoon in Silver City, N.M.

Juarez went deep in the bottom the first with one out to clear Melissa Zuniga, Adrianna Berzoza and Daisy Aguilar from the bases for a 4-0 lead.

Alyssa Lopez added a run in the bottom of the second with a single into center to score Ashlynn Williams for a 5-0 lead.

Sam Rodriguez drove in the final three runs, hitting a solo shot to left field in the fourth and following that up with a two-run single that scored Juarez and Chelsae Faries in the top of the fifth.

Foster picked up her third win of the season, throwing five shutout innings while allowing just a pair of hits with no walks and one strikeout. 

UTPB and WNMU play two more Saturday afternoon to close out the three-game set.
